
Terps Put in Solid Showing on Day One

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland swimming and diving team had several stellar performances on day one of its weekend action against Pittsburgh, Penn State and Villanova.
Heading into day two, Maryland leads Pittsburgh, 117-50 and Villanova, 113-54 and narrowly trails Penn State, 94-73. The Terps swept both relays as the combination of Annie Fittin, Alexa Hamilton, Megan Lafferty and Ginny Glover won the 200 medley (1:42.83) and Fittin, Lafferty, Blair Cross and Glover captured the 200 free (1:32.52).
Individually, Maryland was dominant in the 100 fly as Lafferty (55.04), Addison Koelle (55.61) and Jenni Roberts (55.73) swept the top three spots respectively. Glover won the 100 free (49.93) and Fittin took second in the 100 back (55.61). Hamilton registered a fourth place showing in the 100 breast (1:05.48) and Jessica Whelan took first in the 1-meter dive (262.10).
On the men's side, the Terps will look for big performances tomorrow to make ground on Pittsburgh and Penn State. Maryland had a plethora of top-five showings, including third place finishes from Roger Dent (50.69) in the 100 fly, Andrew Relihan (50.80) in the 100 back, and John Hauser (46.32) in the 100 free. Alex Spina was the top Terp point-getter in the 1650 free (16:20.62) while Jeff Winters (50.95) and Colin Stang (59.16) took fourth in the 100 fly and 100 breast, respectively. Relihan also tacked on a fourth place finish in the 400 IM (4:01.18).
The Terps return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Eppley.
