Tipping Off: Maryland fell to 11-7 (1-3 ACC) this season with its 74-57 loss to Virginia Tech ... the Terps lead the all-time series 27-9 ... Virginia Tech shot 53.6 percent from the field; the last team to shoot above 50 percent against Maryland was Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament last season ... Maryland had been holding opponents to a .348 mark from the floor this season, sixth best in the nation.

Williams Matches Elmore: With 11 points and 11 rebounds, Jordan Williams recorded his 12th consecutive double-double, matching Len Elmore's school record set at the end of the 1974 season. He has 16 in 18 games this season. Just 51 games into his career, the sophomore has also hit the 500-rebound plateau. He needed nine coming into tonight's game and finished with 11.

Changes to the Lineup: Maryland started the fourth different lineup of the season, going with Pe'Shon Howard, Sean Mosley, Cliff Tucker, Dino Gregory and Jordan Williams.

Bowie: Adrian Bowie came off the bench for the first time this season but still scored in double figures for the seventh time in the past eight games. Bowie had 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Reserves: Maryland's reserves played a pivotal role in the first half, scoring 21 of the Terps' 29 points in the opening stanza. Adrian Bowie had 10, James Padgett had six, Terrell Stoglin had three and Haukur Palsson had two. In all, the Terps had a 25 to nine advantage in bench points. Maryland's bench hasn't been outscored by an opponent since 11/26/10 against Elon.

Tucker's Burst: Cliff Tucker helped Maryland cut a 15-point deficit to eight by scoring 11 straight points for the Terrapins. The senior hit back-to-back 3-pointers, then hit a jumper at the top of a key and another 3-pointer. He finished with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting.

Tidbits: James Padgett's eight points were the most of his career against an ACC opponent ... Dino Gregory had a career-high four assists ... Maryland made three of its first five 3-pointers but missed its next 10 ... Virginia Tech outscored Maryland 42-24 in the paint, the first team to do so this season ... the Terps came into the game averaging 6.0 blocks per game but had just one against the Hokies.
