Maryland-Kent State Meet Results

KENT, Ohio -
The University of Maryland gymnastics team opened the 2010 competition season with its highest season-opener score since the 2000 season with an overall team score of 193.125 at Kent State Sunday afternoon. The Golden Flashes scored a 194.775 to narrowly take the team victory.
"I think this was a good first meet for us," said second-year head coach Brett Nelligan. "There is plenty of room for improvement but this is a great start."
Freshman Katy Dodds matched Abbey Adams for the Terrapins' highest score of the night with an event-high 9.800 on the bar. Kent State's Lauren Wozniak and Marie Case each received scores of 9.725 to trail Dodds.
"I'm very impressed with our freshmen Katy and Lizzy [Manzi], they looked comfortable out there for their first collegiate competition."
After vault, the Terrapins headed to the bars where Adams and Kesley Cofsky each earned scores of 9.750 to lead Maryland. Kent State's Lindsay Runyan earned scores of 9.95 and 9.85 to give the Golden Flashes the slight 97.150-96.550 lead after two events.
On the beam, Adams and Jenn Iovino each received 9.750 scores but Kent State countered again with Marie Case's 9.800 leading the way.
The Terps' comeback attempt came up just short during the floor exercise when Adams' 9.800 was one-upped by Marie Case's 9.850.
Maryland will return home to College Park, Md., for its first home meet of the season on Jan. 15 against Air Force and New Hampshire at 4 p.m.
