2011 Award Winners Announced at Fall Banquet

Oct. 23, 2011

COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The Maryland men's lacrosse team and head coach John Tillman welcomed back the 2011 seniors that helped the Terps win the ACC championship and make the program's first appearance in the NCAA championship game since 1998, on Sunday, October 23, for the annual awards banquet at Sprint Heritage Hall in the Comcast Center on the campus of the University of Maryland.

The highlight of the afternoon's awards was the presentation of the "Big Man" Award, given in honor of former coach Dick Edell. The award was created to honor the player that best exemplified the selfless and positive qualities of the retired coach. The 2011 award was given to defender Ryder Bohlander (above left).

The Daniel Slafkosky Coach's Award was also given out, in memory of former assistant coach Dave Slafkosky's son, who passed away prior to the 2001 season. Goalie Mark White (above right) was selected as the member of the Terps who best illustrated Dan's positive attitude on and off the field.

The Edwin Powell Award, which is presented to the Team MVP, was given to attackman Ryan Young (above center), who led the team in points and who persevered and inspired his teammates despite suffering through the loss of his mother, Maria, in April.
