COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame notes following Maryland's 71-62 loss to Illinois Tuesday night at Comcast Center.

Tipping Off: Maryland fell to 3-3 on the season while Illinois improved to 7-0 with the 71-62 win... Maryland fell to 9-4 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, including 5-1 in College Park... Maryland and Illinois are now tied in the all-time series, 4-4... the Terps had beaten the Illini in their three previous meetings in the Challenge.

Starting Lineup: Maryland used a starting lineup of Sean Mosley, James Padgett, Berend Weijs, Nick Faust and Terrell Stoglin for the second straight game. Mosley and Faust remain as the only Maryland players to start every game this season.

Stoglin Hits 500: Terrell Stoglin, who came into tonight's game leading the ACC in scoring (20.2 ppg), had 25 on 8-of-17 shooting (4-9 3PT) against the Illini. Just 39 games into his career Stoglin has surpassed the 500-point mark. His four 3-pointers matched the most by a Terrapin this year (Sean Mosley twice; Stoglin once before).

Offensive Spark: James Padgett had a career night offensively, contributing a career-high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The junior scored Maryland's first six points of the game (four at the FT line) and grabbed five offensive rebounds. He turned the five offensive boards into nine second-chance points. Padgett came into the game leading the ACC in offensive rebounds (4.2 pg).

Key First-Half Run: With the game tied 20-all and 6:33 left in the first half, Terrell Stoglin scored nine straight for Maryland (3PTR; FT; 3PTR; 2PT jumper) as the Terps increased their lead to 29-23 with 4:01 left, prompting an Illinois timeout. Maryland went into the break with a 35-31 advantage.

Key Second-Half Run: After Sean Mosley made a layup to bring Maryland within one (51-50) with 8:42 left in the game, Sam Maniscalco knocked down a 3-pointer to spark a 10-2 run over the next 4:01 that helped Illinois pull away.

Miscellaneous: Maryland outscored Illinois 8-1 in bench points, 12-4 in second-chance points and 14-10 in the paint during the first half. In the second half, Maryland held a 5-4 edge in second-chance points, while Illinois had the edge in points in the paint (18-8) and bench points (4-1).

Free Throws: Maryland made its first five free throws of the game (four by James Padgett) but connected on just 3 of 9 the rest of the half. The Terps finished the game 15 of 25 (.600). Conversely, the Illini went 18 of 20 (90 percent) from the free-throw line, the best effort by a Maryland opponent this season. Iona hit 73 percent of its free throws (11 of 15) on Nov. 20.
