COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 10 Maryland women's basketball team rolled past Holy Family, 94-36, Sunday night in its final tune up before the regular season begins later this week.

Alyssa Thomas led all scorers with 23 points, including 19 in the first half, in the exhibition victory. Freshman Brene Moseley notched 16. Alicia DeVaughn added 14 points and 14 boards and Tianna Hawkins had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Laurin Mincy added 10 points.

Holy Family, who is ranked No. 18 in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Preseason Coaches' poll, held the first lead, 1-0, when Erin Mann sunk a free throw just 38 seconds into the game. It was the Tigers' only lead throughout the game.

Less than a minute later, DeVaughn made a layup for a 2-1 Terrapin lead that sparked a 27-0 run that held Holy Family to just one point until Devon Spirka made a jump shot with 10:23 left in the half. Thomas scored 12 of her points in that run.

Thomas notched 19 points in the first period and Moseley scored 10 for a 51-17 Maryland lead at the break. Stretching between the first and second halves, the Terrapin defense held the Tigers scoreless for over six minutes.

The Terps won the battle inside, outrebounding the Tigers, 56-35 and outscored them in the paint, 74-16.

As a team, the Terrapins dished 22 assists, including six from Mincy.

Defensively, they forced 25 turnovers out of the Tigers and surrendered just 13. They combined for 15 steals and Essence Townsend notched three blocks.

The Terrapins are ranked tenth in the USA Today/ESPN Division I Top 25 Preseason Coaches' poll, released Tuesday, and are No. 11 in the Associated Press rankings.

Next, the Terps open the regular season when they welcome Loyola (Md.) to College Park for a 7 p.m. game Friday and No. 11 Georgetown at 2 p.m. Sunday. For tickets, log on to the Terrapin Ticket Office online at umterps.com or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
