ATLANTA - Sophomore Megan Lafferty established a conference meet record in the 100 fly Friday night to lead Maryland on day three of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Lafferty, who took second in the 50 free Thursday, captured the 100 fly with a time of 52.39, just short of the conference record (52.34) set in 1997. In total, the Terps had three competitors in the 100 fly finals. Freshman Jennifer Roberts took fifth (53.34) and Addison Koelle touched the wall seventh (54.04). All three racked up NCAA B-cut qualifying marks.

Senior Annie Fittin continued to shine in her final conference championship, finishing second in the 100 back (53.25). The captain from Sea Girt, N.J., registered her second individual B-cut mark after winning her first individual title Thursday in the 50 free.

After guiding the 200 medley and 200 free relays to second-place finishes, junior Ginny Glover took third in the 100 back (53.66) and fourth in the 200 free (1:46.95). The Ellicott City, Md., native's marks registered as two additional B-cut times for the Terps.

Maryland took third in the 400 medley relay in school-record setting fashion, touching the wall at 3:37.21. The team of Annie Fittin, Alexa Hamilton, Megan Lafferty and Ginny Glover tallied the Terps third relay B-cut mark of the championships.

Junior Alexa Hamilton took sixth in the 100 breast with a B-cut 1:02.16. Maryland's top performer in the 400 IM was freshman Victoria Cassidy, who touched the wall ninth with a B-cut 4:16.70.

Freshman Jessica Whelan finished 12th in the preliminaries of the 3-meter to lead the Terps on the board.

Maryland, which finished fourth last season, sits two points behind Miami in fifth place heading into the final day of competition Saturday. The Terps will compete in the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay to cap the 2011 championships.
