
Team Effort Aids Maryland on Day Three

Maryland benefited from solid performances from its veteran swimmers as well as its underclassmen Friday on day three of the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championship.
Senior Mitch Challacombe (48.88) and junior Andrew Relihan tallied the Terps' top showings of the day, taking ninth and 11th in the 100 back, respectively The two times were also additional NCAA B-cut qualifying marks.
The 400 medley relay took eighth as the group of Matt Meserole, Relihan, Sean Stewart and John Hauser touched the wall with a B-cut time of 3:16.52.
Sophomore Jeff Winters finished 19th in the 100 fly (48.67) and 21st in the 100 breast (56.34) while fellow classmate Lorin Pierson was 20th in the 400 IM (4:02.19). Stewart followed Winters in the 100 fly, finishing 20th (48.81).
Maryland's freshman class also fared well. Meserole registered points with a 15th place showing in the 100 back (49.19). Jacob Stephens was the Terps' top performer in the 400 IM (4:00.95) and Colin Stang was tops in the 100 breast (56.30).
The Terps return to the pool Saturday morning for the final day of the championships. Preliminary swims in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly begin at 11 a.m.
