The Maryland swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day with a pair of decisive wins against Georgetown Saturday at Eppley Recreation Natatorium.
The women defeated the Hoyas, 172-83, while honoring seniors Annie Fittin, Blair Cross, Jessalyn Crawford, Montana Puente and Stephanie Parker. The Terps, despite racing in a variety of unconventional contests, swept the top-three finishes in nearly every event.
In the freestyle events, Ginny Glover (23.19), Erin Stout (24.37) and Elena Donald (24.56) went 1-2-3. Jenni Roberts (1:51.04), Stout (1:52.37) and Addison Koelle (1:53.57) swept the 200 and Victoria Cassidy (5:01.56), Holly Rebovich (5:09.81) and Katie Hughes (5:13.88) controlled the top-three slots in the 500.
Megan Lafferty (26.75), Donald (26.99) and Hughes (27.68) took the 50 back to kick off that stroke. Glover (55.31), Hughes (57.81) and Meggie Schmidt (58.73) swept the 100.
Martha VanLieshout won both the 50 breast (30.40) and the 100 breast (1:05.86), with Alexa Hamilton (30.78 and 1:05.94) following her teammate in each event, respectively. Ashley Cox was third in the 50 (31.56) and Amy Halligan was third in the 100 (1:07.48).
Maryland continued its domination into the fly unit with Lafferty taking home the 50 (25.27) and Koelle capturing the 100 (56.64). Roberts (25.50) and Koelle (25.97) followed up Lafferty in the 50 and Schmidt (58.34) and Crawford (59.03) followed Koelle in the 100.
Fittin (58.01) won the 100 IM with Roberts taking second (58.84) and Vanlieshout third (59.73). Jessica Whelan was first in the 1-meter (290.32) and 3-meter (279.90) dive.
The Terps continued its torrid pace in the relays winning the 200 free (1:34.46) and 200 medley (1:43.22).
The men also put on a solid showing in its last action of the regular season, defeating Georgetown, 136-70. The group celebrated seniors Mitch Challacombe, Roger Dent, Myles Poster and Matt Gruszecki
The Terps started off with a clean sweep in the 50 free courtesy of Challacombe (20.72), Gruszecki (21.31) and Peter Fittin (21.81). Gruszecki captured the 100 free (47.67) and Rob Mauer was third (48.41). Andrew Relihan rounded out the freestyle with a win in the 200 (1:42.44) while Brad Dillon took second (1:43.54).
Maryland swept the 50 and 100 back with Matt Meserole (24.44), Alex Spina (24.60) and Andrew Fisher (24.66) and Challacombe (50.99), Fisher (52.35) and Meserole (52.51) going 1-2-3, respectively.
In the breast, Jeff Winters took first in the 50 (26.40) and Colin Stang captured the 100 (58.53) and took third in the 50 (26.67). Relihan was second in the 100 (59.02).
Maryland captured all top-three finishes in the fly, with Winters (22.64), Dent (22.90) and Brooks Gabel (23.49) sweeping the 50 and Dent (50.01), Stewart (50.55) and Jake Stephens (52.74) taking the 100.
Relihan (52.99), Lorin Pierson (54.67) and Stephens (54.97) went 1-2-3 in the 100 IM.
Maryland capped off its regular season finale with wins in the 200 free (1:24.67) and 200 medley (1:33.40) relay.
The Terps continue championship season as they roll into the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Atlanta later this month.
