SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Maryland tennis teams are off to strong starts to the spring dual season and that success has shown up in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
In the ITA team standings released Tuesday, the Terrapin men's team is No. 63, while the women are ranked for the first time since 2007, coming in at No. 71.
The Terrapin men (4-1, 0-1 ACC) were No. 71 last week, with their lone loss of the season coming at No. 1 Virginia. The Terps knocked off 57th-ranked Cornell, 5-2, Sunday in College Park.
After dropping a heart-breaker Friday at Boston College, the Maryland women (4-1, 0-1 ACC) rebounded with a convincing 6-1 win over No. 64 Brown on Saturday. The Terps were last in the ITA rankings in April, 2007 (No. 75).
The men's team, No. 71 last week, reached as high as No. 62 in last season's ITA rankings, but that didn't occur until March.
Both teams will have chances knock off ranked teams again Sunday. The women play at No. 46 Harvard at noon, while the men face No. 29 Virginia Tech at the same time, but at the Tennis Center at College Park.
