COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Kiani Profit and Dwight Barbiasz each earned first team All-America status on Monday from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Their All-America honors were based on their performances last weekend at the NCAA Indoor National Championships. The top eight finishers in each event earn first team All-America designation from the coaches association.
Profit's tie for second in the pentathlon and Dwight Barbiasz's tie for fourth in the men's high jump put Maryland in the middle of the team standings Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Texas A&M.
Profit scored seven team points with her school-record performance in the pentathlon on Friday. That put Maryland in a tie for 28th in the women's team standings out of the 63 scoring teams at the nationals.
Oregon rolled to the women's team victory, scoring 67 points. Texas was second at 38 and LSU was third with 37 points. Florida State placed ninth with 22 points to finish as the top women's team from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Barbiasz cleared 7 feet, 2-1/2 inches in the men's high jump on Saturday afternoon, earning 4.5 points for the Terps. That tied for 44th in the team standings among 65 teams that scored on the men's side.
Florida won the men's team title with 52 points, outscoring the host Aggies (40) and BYU (34). Florida State finished fifth with 30 points to lead ACC teams.
