COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team took two wins from Fordham Wednesday night in a midweek doubleheader at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. It was the tale of two games, as the Terps (15-9) won 7-1 in the first game and rallied for a 5-4 win in the second.

Senior Kerry Hickey started in the circle in the first game and threw six shutout innings before allowing the Rams (14-12) a run. She gave up six hits, but didn't allow one until the top of the fifth inning.

Sophomore Sara Acosta got the Terrapin offense started early when she led off with a double to the right field wall. Junior Bree Hanafin brought in the Terps' first run with a double and senior Marisha Branson brought in a second with a bunt single.

Maryland added two more runs in the bottom of the second. With two outs and runners on second and third, Hickey doubled for two RBI.

The Terps added their final three runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Kathy McLaughlin singled to bring in a run. Senior Lauren Ghent, a pinch runner for sophomore Lexi Carroll, scored when sophomore Courtney Kane was caught stealing second. Next, freshman Candice Beards hit a solo home run to centerfield for the Terrapins' seventh run.

The Rams got on the board in the top of the seventh when Meghan Shager hit an RBI single to centerfield.

In the second game, starting pitcher Kendra Knight gave up three runs in the top of the first inning after a sacrifice fly by Samantha Pellechio scored the first. Beckah Wiggins hit a two-run home run to extend the Rams' lead.

After struggling at the plate in the first two innings, the Terrapins began to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Knight led the inning off with a single and advanced on a bunt by freshman Amanda McCann. Acosta walked and Knight took third on a wild pitch by the Rams' Jen Mineau. Hanafin scored Acosta and Knight with a triple.

In the bottom of the fourth, Beards led off with a base hit up the middle. Ghent pinch ran for Beards and Branson doubled to move her to third. McLaughlin hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Ghent. McCann hit a triple to score Branson for a 4-3 lead.

Maryland added its final run in the bottom of the sixth when Beards sent another single up the middle to score Galindo from third.

In the final five innings, Knight added seven strikeouts and gave up just three hits. Pellechio homered to left field in the top of the sixth for Fordham's fourth run.
