
Lafferty Sets ACC Record in 100 Fly at NCAAs

AUSTIN, Texas - Megan Lafferty set a new conference and team record en route to a ninth-place finish in the 100 fly as Maryland wrapped up day two at the 2011 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jamail Swimming Center.
Lafferty won the B Final with a time of 52.28. The sophomore missed landing in the championship final by .01 second with a 52.59 mark in her morning swim. Her championship time topped the former mark set by North Carolina's Richelle Depold in 1997.
Annie Fittin took 17th in the 100 back preliminaries with a time of 53.34. The senior entered the championships ranked 33rd in the event.
Maryland concludes championship action Saturday as Ginny Glover competes in the 200 back, Fittin and Lafferty look to add points in the 100 free and the trio join senior Blair Cross in the 400 free relay.
