
Terps Take 22nd at NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - Maryland moved up three spots from last year as it capped the 2011 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at No. 22 in the overall team standings Saturday at the Jamail Swimming Center.
Individually, senior Annie Fittin led the Terps, picking up a point in the 100 free with a 16th place finish (48.63). She established a new school record with her preliminary time (48.48). Sophomore Megan Lafferty, who broke a conference record in the 100 fly Friday, took 24th in her preliminary 100 free swim (49.02).
Junior Ginny Glover touched the wall in 27th in preliminary 200 back action with a mark of 1:55.95. She broke her previous school record (1:56.04), which she set at this year's ACC Championships.
Maryland wrapped up the championships with a 12th place showing in the 400 free relay courtesy of Fittin, Lafferty, Blair Cross and Glover. The team broke its previous school record set at this year's conference meet with its stellar preliminary race (3:16.87).
The Terps finished with 42 points, nearly doubling its total from last season (24). Glover, Fittin, Lafferty and Cross all garnered Honorable Mention All-America honors. Fittin, Glover and Lafferty earned the prestigious nod for the second consecutive year.
