COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland gymnastics team will look to avenge an earlier-season loss to No. 11 Penn State while maintaining its undefeated record in the conference Friday as it travels north to take on the Nittany Lions and NC State Wolf Pack at 7 p.m. in University Park, Pa.
"These are three exceptional teams", said head coach Brett Nelligan. "It should be an exciting meet."
Ranked No. 31 nationally, Maryland is riding momentum from last weekend's three-win home quad meet. With a 195.450, the team's highest score of the season, the Terps topped Bridgeport, Rutgers and William & Mary.
At 10-4 on the season, Penn State is ranked eleventh in the country and boasts sophomore Sharaya Musser- the second-ranked gymnast in the country with an average all-around regional qualifying score of 39.455. On Feb. 18, the Nittany Lions defeated the Terps in College Park despite Maryland's 195.300, its first 195-plus score on the year.
Like Maryland, NC State (5-6) is also currently undefeated in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League. The Wolfpack topped conference foe George Washington on Feb. 27 with a season-high 295.350 to improve to 3-0 in the EAGL.
"We're looking forward to seeing Penn State again as well as NC State for an EAGL preview," said Nelligan. "It's a great matchup."
