
Hickey Named Co-ACC Pitcher of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Kerry Hickey of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Co-Pitcher of the Week the league announced Tuesday for her performance in the Terps' 7-0 week beginning last Wednesday. She was honored with the weekly award for the fifth time in her career and first this season.
Hickey finished the week with a 3-0 mark, helping Maryland (20-9) extend its winning streak to 11 games. She gave up just one run in 21 innings of work and fanned 27 batters.
The Huntingtown, Md., right-hander opened the week versus Fordham, striking out 10 and surrendering just one earned run en route to a 7-1 victory. Against Utah in the Maryland Round Robin Hickey fanned 10 batters for the second consecutive time on her way to a 6-0 win. Hickey finished the week with a 1-0 victory over Villanova, allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Opposing batters hit .169 against her on the week.
She batted in all seven of the Terps' games and hit .304 on the week. Against Hampton on Sunday, she hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first, as well as an RBI single up the middle and a sacrifice fly for six RBI.
She shares the weekly honor with Florida State's Sarah Hamilton.
The Terrapins will open ACC play this weekend with a series at Virginia. They will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon and a single game Sunday at noon.
