COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapin women's tennis team dropped slightly in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, down from No. 24 to No. 28. The Terps, however, are still enjoying one of the best stretches in program history, having already compiled 11 wins, and their first over a top 15 ranked opponent in nearly six years. The Terps are 11-4 on the season, including 1-4 in the ACC.
After three consecutive wins over ranked opponents, and perfect 14-0 mark in dual singles, junior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar jumped nearly 90 spots in the latest rankings to No. 32. Sanchez-Quintanar is the seventh highest ranked singles player in the ACC and has already beaten the 15th-ranked player in the country, UNC's Zoe De Bruycker, in straight sets last Friday. She has four straight set victories over ranked opponents this season
Entering the rankings for the first time this week was the doubles team of Sanchez-Quintanar and freshman Jordaan Sanford. The duo has combined for a 14-1 record on the dual season and continues to provide a spark for the Terps at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Maryland looks to notch another upset this weekend as it heads to No. 11 Georgia Tech Friday at 2 p.m. The Terps will finish the weekend with a bout with 12th-ranked Clemson at noon on Sunday.
