SKILLMAN, N.J. -
The Maryland tennis teams have continued their solid play and moved up in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
The Terrapin women (9-2, 0-2 ACC) jumped from No. 43 to 40 and the men (9-3, 1-2) from 45th to 44th in the ITA rankings that were released Tuesday.
For the women it's their highest ranking since February, 2007 when the Terps were 33rd nationally.
This is as high as the men have been in the last five seasons. The Terps reached No. 45 in March, 2007.
The men also have four players in the individual rankings. Maros Horny is No. 72 and Sergio Wyss is No. 111 in the ITA singles list, while the tandem of John Collins and Tommy Laine is 56th in the doubles rankings. Laine has a team-best 10-2 dual singles mark.
The Maryland women do not have a nationally-ranked player, but the young squad has four new faces, three of them starters. That group has made a splash this season.
The Terps two loses are the fewest through at least 10 games since 2003, before ACC expansion.
Maryland won its third straight against a ranked opponent Saturday afternoon, knocking off No. 56 Princeton 5-2.
Junior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and sophomore Ana Belzunce remained unbeaten in dual singles, improving to 10-0 and 11-0, respectively. Sanchez-Quintanar and doubles partner Jordaan Sanford are a perfect 11-0 on the dual season since teaming up together for the first time in January.
Both teams are in the midst of a break.
The Terrapin women are preparing for a grueling second-half schedule with visits from top 25 foes Duke, North Carolina and Virginia over spring break.
Up next though for the women is Richmond. The Terps have a date with the Spiders on Tuesday (2:30 p.m.) in Richmond, Va.
The Maryland men's team is off until Monday, March 21 when it plays at Louisville.
