COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will play host to Binghamton Tuesday night in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at Robert E. Taylor Stadium.

The Terps (28-13, 6-4 ACC) are currently tied for second in the ACC with North Carolina. The Terrapins have won six of their last seven games, after splitting a Sunday doubleheader with NC State. The Terps won game one 3-1 and lost game two 2-1.
Binghamton comes to College Park with a 17-12 overall record and 6-3 record in the American East. The Bearcats' head coach, Michelle Burrell, is No. 2 in the Maryland record books for career games played with 239. In her sophomore year, 1999, the Terrapins made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. She played from 1998-2001. She is in the Maryland top five in runs scored (113), sacrifice hits (29), and stolen bases (25). Her 19 doubles in 2001 are still a school record and her 65 hits that year are in the top five. Binghamton assistant Meredith Nelles is on Maryland's record lists for career wins (No. 6 - 38-27), innings pitched (No. 6 - 383.1) and career strikeouts (No. 7 - 350). She played at Maryland from 2006-08.
Junior Vangie Galindo is leading the Terps with her batting average of .400. Bree Hanafin is second with a .388 clip. They are Nos. 3 and 4 in the league. Hanafin is in the top 10 of the league in six offensive categories - batting avg., slugging pct., on base pct., hits, bases and sac bunts. Galindo and Hanafin are both in the top ten of the league in hits with 50 and 47. Galindo is in the top ten in stolen bases with 15.
The Terrapin pitching staff of Ashley Czechner, Kerry Hickey and Kendra Knight leads the ACC in strikeouts with 362. They lead the ACC in batters struck out looking with 104. Maryland's pitching unit also leads the league with a 1.74 ERA, which is No. 16 in the country. The Terrapins have given up the fewest hits (177) and fewest runs (88) in the ACC. The Terps' opposing batting average is the best in the league - .177.
After Tuesday's games, the Terrapins will head south to play a three-game series at Florida State over the weekend. The Terps and the Seminoles will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game Sunday at noon.
