Senior Kerry Hickey of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Co-Pitcher of the Week the league announced Tuesday for her performance in the Terps' 4-1 week beginning last Tuesday. She was honored with the weekly award for the sixth time in her career and second this season.
Hickey finished the week with a 3-1 mark, helping Maryland (32-14, 8-5 ACC) take two of three at Florida State. The Terps have won 10 of their last 12 games to currently sit at third in the league. Over the week, she pitched 17.0 innings and allowed just seven hits and three earned runs. She tallied 22 strikeouts in the four games.
The Huntingtown, Md., right-hander notched her 11th career no-hitter in game one of the series at Florida State. In that game, she had 10 strikeouts. After the Terrapins went ahead 7-4 in the top of the seventh inning of game two, she came on in the bottom of the inning to close the game out. She got three straight Seminoles out on nine straight pitches to end the game.
Against Binghamton last Tuesday, she allowed just three hits in 7.0 innings and earned 10 strikeouts en route to a 5-0 Terps win.
She shares the weekly honor with North Carolina's Lori Spingola.
The Terrapins will play host to Delaware State Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Admission and parking are both free and Gametracker live stats will be available.
Maryland will play a three-game series at Virginia Tech (33-16, 9-9 ACC) this weekend. They will take the field Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon and Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available.
