SKILLMAN, N.J. - Tuesday's latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings have the University of Maryland women's tennis team falling only one spot to No. 33.
Led by 27th-ranked Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, the Terps have steadily climbed from unranked to begin the season to a weekly spot in the ITA top 35. The junior has compiled a 16-4 overall record in dual singles, including 7-4 in the ACC, and has posted five wins over ranked opponents. She and freshman Jordaan Sanford have teamed up for an 18-4 dual doubles record and are currently ranked 26th in the country.
After wrapping up regular season and conference championship play Thursday, the Terps await an at-large NCAA selection to the 65-team field. The NCAA women's tennis selection show will be shown on NCAA.com at 5 p.m. EDT May 3. Individuals selected to the singles and doubles championships will be announced no later than 6 p.m. May 4.
Maryland's last NCAA tournament appearance came during the 2005-2006 season. Ramona But led the Terps to a 12-12 overall record before falling to South Florida in the first round of the NCAAs.
