COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team concludes its home season this weekend as the Terps take on ACC foes Florida State and Miami.
After splitting a pair of ACC road matches last weekend, including an upset of No. 11 Georgia Tech Friday afternoon, the Terps jumped up two spots in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings to No. 26.
"The last four matches we're going to face some really strong competition," said head coach Howard Joffe. "I hope our girls can sustain the level of play we have been playing at all year."
The Terps play host to 31st-ranked Florida State at 2 p.m. Friday at the Tennis Center at College Park. That match was originally scheduled to be played at the Cole Tennis Courts, but impending inclement weather moved it inside.
Friday's match marks the first time since March 17 (vs. Georgetown) the Terps will be the higher-ranked team.
Maryland will celebrate the final home match for senior Julia Huschke Saturday against No. 5 Miami at 2 p.m. That match is scheduled for the Cole Tennis Courts, but could also be moved inside.
Huschke, a biology major from Celebration, Fla., has started in dual matches for Maryland each of the past two seasons, seeing action predominantly at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles. She was pivotal in last Friday's win over Georgia Tech, defeating Tech's Elizabeth Kilborn 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 5 position to force a 3-3 tie with one match remaining.
"Julia has been a great student, athlete, and leader," said Joffe. "It's too bad her time with us is running short."
With Tuesday's match against Howard University canceled, the Terps finish the season a perfect 10-0 in non-conference regular-season dual matches.
