COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will play host to one of 16 Regional sites next weekend in the NCAA Women's Division I Softball Championship. The Terps (39-17) will appear in back-to-back NCAA Regionals for the first time in program history.

Maryland will play host to the No. 11-seed Baylor (40-12), Conference USA champion East Carolina (39-20) and the Patriot League champion Lehigh (33-21) next weekend at Robert E. Taylor Stadium.

Maryland is scheduled to face off against East Carolina Friday at 7:30 p.m., while Baylor and Lehigh will take the field at 5 p.m. The four teams will play a double-elimination tournament over the weekend, with the winner advancing to the Super Regionals next weekend.

The Terps and the Pirates have met three times this season with the Terrapins taking two of the games. Maryland won the first meeting 3-1 on Feb. 13 at the Red and Black Showcase in Athens, Ga. East Carolina came to College Park for a doubleheader on March 9. The Pirates took the first game 3-2 and the Terps took the second 4-2.

This is the first time in program history the Terrapins have made back-to-back NCAA Regionals appearances. Maryland's first Regionals bid was in 1999 and the second was in 2010. Last year, the Terps hosted Regionals for the first time in school history.

The Terps advanced to the Atlantic Coast Conference Semifinals this weekend. They beat North Carolina State 4-3 Friday in the quarterfinals with a walk-off RBI base hit by All-ACC Second Team player Bree Hanafin. On Saturday, Maryland fell to North Carolina in the semifinal match-up 7-3.

The Terrapin pitching staff of ACC Pitcher of the Year Kerry Hickey, junior Kendra Knight and freshman Ashley Czechner proved to be a strong point for the team throughout the season. The trio combined for an ERA of 1.82, which was the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference and top 20 in the NCAA.

All-ACC First Team honoree Vangie Galindo led the Terrapins at the plate with a .420 average and 74-hit season - the most by any Terrapin in program history. Her .331 career average and .420 average are both the best in Maryland history.

Sophomore Sara Acosta was named to the All-ACC Tournament team Sunday. She went 3-for-5 on the weekend.

All-session tickets are $25 and $20 for students and seniors. Single-session tickets are $10 and $8 for students and seniors. To purchase tickets, log on to the Terrapin Ticket Office online at umterps.com or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
