Four members of the Maryland softball team earned spots on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-Mid Atlantic Region teams announced Thursday. Senior Kerry Hickey and junior Vangie Galindo were named to the First Team, while freshman Ashley Czechner and junior Bree Hanafin earned spots on the Second Team.
Hickey, this year's ACC Pitcher of the Year, was named to the All-ACC First Team last week along with Galindo. Hanafin made the All-ACC Second Team.
Hickey and Czechner are Nos. 3 and 4 in the league with their 1.74 and 1.78 ERAs, while junior Kendra Knight is No. 5 with her 2.00. Hickey is No. 4 in the ACC in strikeouts with 235 this season and was also named to the All-Region First Team in 2009. Czechner leads the league her opposing batting average of .166.
Galindo is second in the ACC with her .420 batting average and she leads with her 74 hits this season. On May 8, the broke Maryland's single season hits record of 70 set by Jenny Belak in 2006. Her current .329 career average is the best in Terps history, as is her season average.
Hanafin is sixth in the ACC with a .361 average, which is top five in the Maryland record books for season average. She leads the Terps in RBI with 34 and home runs with eight.
The Terps will play East Carolina Friday at 7:30 p.m. as they play host to the NCAA Regionals this weekend. Baylor and Lehigh will take the field at 5 p.m. The four teams will play a double-elimination tournament over the weekend, with the winner advancing to Super Regionals.
Saturday's games will be played at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday's game will be at noon and if necessary, a second game will be played at 2:30 p.m. Teams playing in those games will be determined upon results of Friday's games.

All fans are advised that the University of Maryland Commencement and Graduation ceremonies will be taking place Thursday and Friday in the Comcast Center, which is adjacent to Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Fans planning to attend Friday's games should prepare for heavy traffic and limited parking. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis in all parking lots surrounding Taylor Stadium.
