STANFORD, Calif. - Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar made school history Wednesday and was attempting to build on that accomplishment one day later.

But the junior, ranked No. 30 nationally, was eliminated from the NCAA Singles Championship Thursday by Zoe De Bruycker of North Carolina who posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the round of 32.

Sanchez-Quintanar, who had defeated the Tar Heels' 13th-ranked performer earlier in the year, became the first Maryland tennis played to advance to the NCAA round of 32 with her first-round victory over Texas A&M's Nazari Urbina.

Delila Causevic (2002) and Ramona But (2004-06) were the only other Terps to earn a berth in the NCAA Singles Championship, though they were knocked out in the first round in each appearance.

Jordaan Sanford joined Sanchez-Quintanar for the NCAA Doubles Championship which was going on simultaneously at Stanford, but that duo, ranked No. 26 in the country, fell in Thursday's opening round to Linda Abu Meshrefova and Nida Hamilton of Northwestern 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. The Wildcat tandem was the 12th-ranked doubles duo in the nation and moved on to Friday's round of 16.

Sanford and Sanchez-Quintanar end the season with an 18-4 record. Sanchez-Quintanar was 17-5 in singles, which included six wins over nationally-ranked competition.
