COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A talented group of eight track and field seniors will make their final home appearance for the University of Maryland on Thursday when the Terrapins host the Kehoe Twilight Meet.
Events begin at 5 p.m. with the women's hammer, with all other field events and the track schedule beginning at 6 p.m. Highlights on the schedule include the Jim Kehoe men's 800 in honor of the former Maryland Hall of Fame head coach and athletics director, and the coed Maryland Alumni mile run beginning at 8:10.
"We're looking to get some last-minute qualifiers," said Maryland head coach Andrew Valmon, who will also serve as the men's head coach for Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics. "This meet will allow our student-athletes another chance to get this done."
Maryland's seniors have distinguished themselves on the track and have left their marks throughout the record book. Among them are ACC women's discus champion Kristen Batts and All-ACC distance runners Greg Kelsey and Alex Lundy.
"For our seniors, this is the last time they will compete on our home track," said Valmon. "They have given a lot back to our program and we will be proudly honoring them during the meet."
Joining Maryland will be 10 other local schools in the field, including Bowie State, UDC, Johns Hopkins and Towson.
The Terrapins are continuing preparations for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championships, which begin with the Eastern Preliminaries on May 26 through 28 at the University of Indiana. The national championships will be June 8 through 11 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Admission to the Kehoe Twilight Meet is free. Spectators are suggested to park in Lot 1, located near the Kehoe Track Complex.
