NEW ORLEANS, La. -
Dwight Barbiasz earned first team All-America recognition Monday from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association based on his fifth-place finish in the men's high jump at last week's NCAA Outdoor Nationals.
Barbiasz, a Terrapin junior from Milford, N.H., earned the third All-America honor of his career and his second this season. He tied for fourth at this year's NCAA Indoor Nationals, clearing the same height of 7 feet, 2-1/2 inches both indoors and outdoors.
Barbiasz is the Terps' first three-time All-American since hurdler Dominic Berger earned three awards in 2006 and 2007.
He is the first multiple honoree in the men's high jump since current assistant coach Frank Costello earned four awards in 1965 and 1966. Costello won national titles indoors and outdoors in 1965.
Student-athletes who scored team points for top-eight finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Nationals earned first-team recognition, with second-team honors going to finishers between ninth and 16th place.
All others who qualified for nationals were given honorable mention All-America honors.
