COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Incoming freshman Kaitlyn Schmeiser was named The Washington Post's All-Met Player of the Year last week. Schmeiser, a pitcher for Northern High School, will be a Terrapin in the fall.

She is the only pitcher in Maryland high school softball history to win four championship games. She led her Northern team to a perfect 22-0 record. According to The Washington Post, she did not allow an earned run in 111 innings while striking out 241 and allowing 16 hits. Schmeiser threw eight no-hitters, including four perfect games. She is also a threat at the plate, as she hit .541 with three home runs and 47 RBI.

In 2009, as a sophomore, she as honored as an Honorable Mention selection and in 2010, she was named to the Second Team.

Prior to this season, Schmeiser was one of only three athletes in MPSSAA history to record shutouts in five postseason games over her career and was one of just seven pitchers in the MPSSAA to have led her team to three state championships. She plays for the Severna Park Green Hornets.
