
Hickey Named to ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - 2011 ACC Pitcher of the Year Kerry Hickey of the Maryland softball team was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Academic team the league announced this week.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.
Hickey, who was honored on the conference's All-Academic team in 2008 and 2010, graduated in May with her degree in criminology and criminal justice.
This past season, she was named to the All-ACC First Team and NFCA All Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. Hickey was named ACC Pitcher of the Week seven times in her stellar career and threw 11 no hitters. She no-hit eventual ACC Champion Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. on April 23.
She ended her career ranked second in Maryland history in strikeouts (663) and appearances and third in wins (55), innings pitched (596.0).
Last month, the Terrapins played host to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year. They compiled the most wins (40) since 1999 and most ACC wins (12) in school history.
