GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Women's discus champion Kristen Batts joined junior jumper Jarenn Stewart as selections from the University of Maryland on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Outdoor Track and Field teams, the league office announced Tuesday.
Batts, a senior majoring in community health at Maryland, won the women's discus title at the ACC Outdoor Championships in April. Her best discus performance of the outdoor season was a mark of 162 feet, 6 inches set at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet at Indiana.
A native of Marlboro, N.J., Batts also placed fourth in the ACC in the women's hammer with a throw of 181-1. She ranks third all-time at Maryland in the discus and fifth in the hammer.
Stewart, a junior kinesiology major from Jamaica, N.Y., finished ninth in the men's long jump at the ACC Outdoor Championships. His best mark of the season of 23-3 1/4 came at the season-opener at the UCF Invitational. The honor was his first All-ACC Academic award as a Terrapin.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during their academic career. They must also have had significant athletic accomplishments during the season.
