COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Karen Tang earned East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Specialist of the Week honors for her performance on bars at the Terps' season-opening tri-meet against No. 13 Penn State and West Virginia on Sunday.

Tang scored a 9.85 to finish in a tie for first place. Tang's score is the Terps' third-best performance on bars in the last four years.

"I'm so happy for Karen," said head coach Brett Nelligan. "After sitting out last year with an injury, she really worked incredibly hard to get competition ready. This award really validates all that dedication."

Maryland begins its home slate on Friday at 7 p.m. against Pittsburgh.
