
Lafferty Leads Terps on Day Two of ACCs

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - Megan Lafferty took third in the 50 free to lead Maryland on day two of the 2012 ACC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday.
Lafferty finished with a season-best mark of 22.50 as Maryland ended the second day of competition in sixth place, 12 points-shy of Virginia Tech and Miami.
The 200 free relay also landed on the podium as the team of Lafferty, Carolyn Fittin, Ginny Glover and Melanie Busch finished with a season-high, B-cut performance (1:30.02).
Fittin followed Lafferty in the 50 free with a ninth-place finish (22.83) and Busch took 23rd (23.52).
Three Terps landed in the top 25 in the 500 free, led by Victoria Cassidy's 11th place showing (4:48.24). Kacie Ciampoli (4:57.54) and Megan Zarrieollo (4:59.78) took 22nd and 24th, respectively.
Laura Flewelling was the Terps' top finisher in the 200 IM, touching the wall 16th (2:04.64). Jessica Whelan garnered an additional point for the Terps with a mark of 266.20 in the 1-meter dive.
Maryland resumes championship competition Friday with preliminaries in the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and the 3-meter dive beginning at 11 a.m.
