Senior Kendra Knight of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week the league announced Tuesday. She led the Terrapins (4-1) to wins over No. 11 Michigan and No. 22 Kentucky over the weekend in Florida Atlantic's Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
Knight pitched complete games in both games for a total of 16.0 innings in the circle. The Virginia Beach, Va., native only allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out 17 in 16.0 innings pitched in the games over the Wolverines and the Wildcats.
Against the Wolverines, Knight allowed two runs in the first, then held them to just one hit in the final six innings to lead Maryland to a 7-3 victory. The Terrapins beat Kentucky 2-1 in nine innings and Knight did not allow a hit in the two extra innings.
This is Knight's fourth weekly conference honor, as she was named ACC Pitcher of the Week three times as a sophomore in 2010.
Maryland returns home Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader vs. Oakland (0-2) at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Admission is free and parking will be open in lot 4B after 1 p.m. Prior to that, fans may be subject to ticketing.
