
Bustillos Named ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Shannon Bustillos of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week the league announced Tuesday. She led the Terrapins to a 6-1 week with five hits, six RBI, a double and her first career home run.
Bustillos, a native of Anaheim, Calif., came up with big plays on both offense and defense for the Terrapins (10-2) in three separate wins this week. She started all seven games behind the plate and threw out eight stolen base runners.
In the Terps' televised game vs. Wisconsin Saturday, she broke open five and a half scoreless innings. With two outs, the bases loaded, a 0-0 score and a full count, the rookie doubled to score three Terrapin runs. . In the game vs. Marshall Sunday, with the Terps down by one with two outs and the bases loaded, Bustillos reached on an error to score the tying and go-ahead runs.
Against Oakland last Wednesday in the Terps' home opener, she hit her first home run of her career to lead off the bottom of the third. Her solo shot to left gave Maryland a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish. In the second game vs. Oakland, she singled in the bottom of the third to cut Oakland's lead 2-1
Next weekend, the Terrapins will head to No. 2 Alabama to play in the Alabama Invite. They will face Massachusetts Friday at 12:30 p.m., then the Crimson Tide at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Maryland will face UAB at noon, then Alabama at 5 p.m. They will finish out the weekend Sunday with a noon game vs. Massachusetts.
