BLACKSBURG, Va. - Zack Ray posted a career-best in the 60-meter hurdles and led a strong 4x400 relay team to highlight University of Maryland performances over the weekend at the Virginia Tech Elite track and field meet.

Ray went 8.00 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles for a career-best and moved into fifth on the all-time list at Maryland. He placed fifth in the final.

Maryland's 4x400 relay squad of Ray, John Davenport, Shawn David and Mamadou Niang, were third in 3:17.61, moving into 10th all-time indoors for the Terps.

Also for the men, Davenport and David finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the invitational section of the 400. Davenport had a season-best 49.78, with David finishing in 49.90.

Craig Morgan hit the IC4A-qualifying standard in the 800, cutting nearly two seconds off his previous season-best at 1:54.64. Niang also cut seconds off his season-best, going 1:56.06.

Freshman Pat Cole had a season-best in the men's weight throw, going 50-7.25.

On the women's side, Taylor Bumpas ran a career-best 2:12.41 to finish seventh in the 800, following directly by Nicole Banker, who also posted a career-best at 2:13.21. Those marks moved Bumpas into sixth all-time indoors at Maryland, while Banker jumped into ninth all-time.

Arielle Statham ran the top 400-meter time of the season for Maryland with a 57.15 clocking in the invitational section, placing fourth.

Amina Smith led Maryland's quartet in the women's high jump, finishing sixth at 5-8.75. Thea LaFond was eighth at 5-7, while freshman Amber Melville posted a season best by also clearing 5-7 and finishing ninth. Lucile Cancre tied for 10th at 5-5.

Maryland competes next on Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Millrose Collegiate Invitational at the New York Armory.
