
Carroll Named ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Junior Lexi Carroll of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week the league announced Tuesday. This is the second conference weekly award in her career and third for the Terrapins (16-6) this season.
Carroll, a native of Eau Gallie, Fla., led the Terrapins to a 5-0 week with her skills at the plate. She hit .615 with eight hits in her 13 at-bats. She knocked in a team-high seven RBI with a double and a home run.
In the Terps' 17-7 win over Rhode Island, Carroll went 4-4 at the plate. She hit a single in the top of the first and then a double to begin a seven-run scoring spree in the top of the third. Later that inning, she hit an RBI base hit. She brought in another run with a single in the top of the fifth.
Against Princeton, she helped the Terrapins battle back from a five-run deficit to a 10-6 win with five RBI. With the Terrapins down 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth, she led off with a single to left to help the Terrapins score two that inning. The next inning, she hit a two-RBI single to make it a 6-4 Princeton lead. With two on in the bottom of the sixth, she homered to left center to make it 10-6 Terps.
Next, the Terrapins will head to Florida for an eight-game swing. They will play six games over the weekend in South Florida's Invitational in Clearwater. On Friday, Maryland will play Bryant and Canisius at 4:30 and 6:45 p.m. Saturday, the Terps take on Boston University and Illinois 4 and 6:15 p.m. Maryland will play Florida A&M at 11:15 a.m. Sunday and then an exhibition game vs. the Netherlands at 1:30 p.m.
On March 21, the Terps will play two games at Florida Gulf Coast.
