COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sander Beck allowed just three hits in six shutout innings, and Maryland used a balanced offensive attack to cruise past St. Peter's 9-0 in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.

Beck improved to 3-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.56 in his longest outing of the year. The senior struck out five and though he issued four walks, allowed just three singles and never allowed a runner to advance past second base.

The offense backed him up, with nine different Terrapins recording a hit, including seven in the second inning alone. That spurred a six-run inning in which Maryland (12-4) took control.

After first baseman Tomo Delp led off the second with a single to center field, Maryland batted around. Outfielder Jordan Hagel, second baseman Kyle Convissar and third baseman K.J. Hockaday all had run-scoring doubles in the rally, while catcher Jack Cleary and outfielder Michael Montville drove in runs with singles.

Maryland then tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pad the lead. In the fourth, Convissar took his ACC-leading 10th hit by pitch, then stole second and third before scoring on a fielder's choice groundout by Hockaday.

Back-to-back doubles by shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez and Cleary extended the Maryland lead to 9-0 in the fifth.

Freshman right-hander Bobby Ruse made his first appearance in a Maryland uniform, coming on to pitch a perfect seventh inning, including back-to-back strikeouts to finish it.

St. Peter's (3-13) starting pitcher Ethan Jackson took the loss, giving up six runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Cleary was the lone Terp with a multiple-hit effort, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Montville and Hockaday extended their hitting streaks to seven games each.
