Bustillos, Knight Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Kendra Knight and freshman Shannon Bustillos of the Maryland softball team both earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference Tuesday afternoon.

The duo helped the Terps (23-17, 3-6 ACC) to a three-game sweep of Virginia this past weekend in College Park. Knight notched her fifth career Pitcher of the Week award and second this season, while Bustillos earned the second Player of the Week honor of her young career. Her first was on Feb. 28.

Knight gave the Terrapins two dominating starts and three strong appearances this weekend.The Virginia Beach, Va., native allowed just one run and eight hits over 17.0 innings of work, and threw a one-hitter in Sunday's finale. She struck out 22 compared to eight walks allowed. The Cavaliers hit .140 against Knight as she posted an ERA of 0.40 for the week. With her strikeouts this weekend, she moved up to No. 2 on Maryland's all-time career strikeout list with 476. She shares the weekly honor with UNC's Lori Spingola.

Bustillos led Maryland's offense this week by hitting .571 with seven RBIs and two home runs in a three-game sweep of Virginia. In Saturday's first game, the Anaheim, Calif., native connected on a two-run shot to center to give the Terrapins a 3-0 lead. Bustillos knocked in the go-ahead run in Saturday's second game, and then hit a three-run home run on Sunday.

The Terrapins will welcome Howard to Robert E. Taylor Stadium Wednesday afternoon for a midweek doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Admission is free and parking is free after 4 p.m. Fans that park prior to 4 p.m. are subject to ticketing in the lots surrounding Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Live stats will be available.
