Seattle Regionals Information
Maryland will head to Seattle, Wash. this week to play in NCAA Regionals at the University of Washington. The Terps will take on Texas Tech in their first game Friday, then will play Saturday as well. Their Saturday time depends on Friday's outcome. NCAA Regionals are double elimination with the winner advancing to Super Regionals

Scouting The Terps
Maryland enters NCAA Regionals with a 34-20 overall record. The Terrapins will take on No. 23 Texas Tech Friday night at 6:30 p.m. ET in the Husky Softball Stadium in Seattle, Wash.
Most recently, the Terrapins fell to Virginia Tech 5-2 Thursday in the ACC Tournament. They won 14 of 16 games to end the regular season, including two over No. 19 Florida State two weekends ago.
Sophomore Candice Beards and seniors Vangie Galindo and Kendra Knight were named to the All-Mid Atlantic Region First Team, released Thursday. Galindo was also named to the First Team in 2011. It is the first honor for Knight and Beards.
The Terrapins have five seniors in this year's roster in Vangie Galindo, Kendra Knight, Bree Hanafin, Kathy McLaughlin and Sloane Van Meter.
Head Coach Laura Watten returns seven starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's NCAA Regionals squad.
In 2011, senior Vangie Galindo had one of the greatest seasons at the plate in Terrapin softball history. Her season average of .422 and 78 hits last year were both school records. Galindo is batting .342 in her career, which is the best career average in school history. Bree Hanafin's career average of .323 is second-best and Kathy McLaughlin's career average of .296 is eighth in school history.
Last Sunday, Vangie Galindo became Maryland's all-time hits leader with her 220th in the 10th inning that started the Terps' rally. She broke Jenny Belak's record of 219 set in 2008.
Galindo owns Maryland's records in career stolen bases (66), career batting average (.342), batting average in a season (.422 in 2011) and hits in a season (78 in 2011).
With her stellar season this year, Kathy McLaughlin won the ACC regular season batting title with her .379 average at the plate in all games and .460 average in ACC games. Her career average of .296 puts her at No. 8 on Maryland's all-time list.
Senior Kendra Knight also broke a record on Thursday. With her nine K's against the Hokies, she became the first Maryland player to rack up 300 strikeouts in a single season. Against Florida State, she surpassed Kelly Shipman's record of 290 set in 1999. Knight is second on the Terps' all-time strikeout list with 782 in her career.
Scouting The Red Raiders
No. 23 Texas Tech is 40-15 on the season and finished 13-10 in Big 12 play.
Adriana Perez is leading the Red Raiders at the plate with her .350 average, 57 hits and 15 home runs this season. She also has a team-high 55 RBI.
The series between the Terps and the Red Raiders is tied at one apiece. Maryland won the most recent meeting, 3-2, in 2010.
Scouting The Huskies
No. 18 Washington is 36-17 on the season and went 7-15 in Pac 12 games.
Kaitlyn Inglesby led the Huskies at the plate with her .406 average and was racked up 156 strikeouts in her 180.0 innings in the circle.
The Terrapins and the Huskies have met just once. Washington won 10-5 in 2001.

Scouting The Crimson
The Ivy League champion Harvard went 33-13 on the season and went 17-3 in league play. The Crimson won its second straight Ivy League title last weekend.
Jane Alexander led the Crimson at the plate with her .408 average, 60 hits and 13 doubles.
Maryland is 2-1 all-time vs. Harvard. Their last meeting was a 5-2 Terps' win in 2002.
Heat Wave
At 20-17 overall and 0-8 in ACC play on April 14, the Terrapins began on a red-hot tear that resulted in winning 14 of their last 16 games to end the regular season.
The Terrapins' win streak started with a three-game sweep of Virginia April 14-15 in College Park.
In that 16-game span, the Terps averaged .348 at the plate as a team with 145 hits and 89 RBI. In that stretch, they outscored their opponents 104-34.
Over those last 16 games, Knight's ERA was 1.36 and her record was 14-1. She racked up 121 strikeouts and allowed just 20 earned runs in 102.2 innings pitched. Batters hit just .139 against her.
Vangie Galindo, Kathy McLaughlin and Candice Beards all hit over the .400-mark at .474, .434 and .409, respectively. Shannon Bustillos hit .380.
Galindo had 27 hits and McLaughlin had 23, while Bustillos had 22 RBI.
Who's Hot?
Senior Vangie Galindo has hit .500 over the last five games with 10 hits, six RBI and four stolen bases.
Senior Kathy McLaughlin has hit .375 over the last five games with six hits, three RBI and four walks.
Senior Kendra Knight's ERA over the last five games is 1.80 with 35.0 innings pitched, nine earned runs allowed, 35 strikeouts, and an opposing batting average of .139. She's allowed just four multi-base hits over that stretch and 17 hits total.
NCAA Regionals History
This is Maryland's fourth appearance in NCAA Regionals. The Terrapins own a record of 5-6 (.455).
Prior to 2010, the Terps' only Regionals appearance was in 1999. Since 2010, they've made three straight trips to the Big Dance for the dirst time in school history.
Last year, the Terrapins beat Lehigh one and fell to East Carolina twice in Regionals at home in College Park. Baylor was also sent to Maryland.
The Terps also hosted Regionals in 2010. They welcomed Oklahoma, Syracuse and Fordham to Robert E. Taylor Stadium. They fell to the Rams twice and beat the Orange.

Stellar Seniors
This year's senior class of Vangie Galindo, Bree Hanafin, Kendra Knight, Kathy McLaughlin and Sloane Van Meter will leave behind quite a legacy.
This year's class garnered a record of 137-89 (.606). They amassed more ACC wins than any other class in school history with 39.
They went to back-to-back NCAA Regionals (2010, 2011, 2012) for the first time in school history. The 2010 appearance was Maryland's first since 1999.

Laura Watten returns for her seventh season at the helm of the up-and-coming Terrapin softball program. Her current career record is 560-372 (.601) and her record at Maryland is 238-165 (.591). Below is a breakdown of just a few of her career highlights:

New Leaders
Watten hired three new assistants prior to the 2012 season - Amber Jackson, Charlotte Morgan, and Kelly Kretschman.
Jackson was one of the greatest hitters in Maryland softball history. Jackson transferred to Maryland for her senior year (2007) after playing her first three years at Bethune-Cookman College under Watten. In her one year as a Terrapin, she broke school records with 24 home runs, 56 RBI, and 55 walks. Her home run record led the NCAA that year. She was Maryland's second NFCA All-American and was named to the All-ACC First Team. After her career at Maryland, she played three years in the National Pro Fastpitch league for the Washington Glory and USSSA Pride. She 2007 MVP of the NPF and I received All-NPF honors in 2009.
Morgan, an All-American pitcher at Alabama, plays for the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league. She played for the Crimson Tide from 2007-2010, winning SEC Player of the Year twice (2009, 2010). Morgan was named a first-team ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American and NFCA second-team All-American. She won the Lowes Senior Class award and was a top 10 finalist for USA Softball's Player of the Year honor. She helped lead the Tide to the Women's College World Series in 2008 and 2009. She was the NPF's No. 1 draft pick in 2010.
She won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens and a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She served as an alternate for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Kretschman was a four-time NFCA All-American at Alabama from 1998-2001. As a freshman, she led the NCAA in home runs (25) and slugging percentage. She was named First Team All-SEC three times (1999, 2000, 2001). Kretschman helped lead the Tide to the 2000 Women's College World Series and was named to the All-WCWS Team. She is currently in her seventh season with the NPF.
Terps Picked to Finish No. 5 in ACC
Maryland was picked to finish fifth in the ACC, as voted by the league's head coaches.
The Terrapins were one vote behind Virginia for fourth-place.
In 2011, Maryland went 12-7 in ACC play for the most conference wins in a season in school history. The Terps finished third in the league after being picked to finish fifth. They advanced to the ACC Semifinals before falling to North Carolina.
