LUBBOCK, Texas - Maryland senior Alfredo Rodriguez has been named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award, the College Baseball Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday.

Rodriguez is one of 25 finalists for the award, which will be presented to the nation's top shortstop on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas. The senior is one of two candidates from the Atlantic Coast Conference, joining Chris Diaz of NC State.

Rodriguez has a .967 fielding percentage, having committed just eight errors while tallying a team-high 151 assists. He also established career highs in batting average (.294), doubles (12), RBIs (34) and on-base percentage (.368). The Oakton, Va., native finished the regular season strong, hitting .358 over the final 27 games.

Rodriguez, who has started 177 consecutive games for Maryland, is also tied for the school record with 62 career stolen bases. On the year, he has a team-high 16 on 19 attempts. He's also tied for the school record with 27 career sacrifice hits and ranks third nationally this season with nine sacrifice flies.
