Stancu Advances to Second Round

ATHENS, Ga. - Sophomore Cristina Stancu won a first-set tiebreaker and shutout Texas A&M's Nazari Urbina in the second set to advance to the second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Singles Championship at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
After trailing 6-5 in the opening set, Stancu broke Urbina's serve to force a tiebreaker. Stancu dominated the extra frame and won the tiebreaker 7-3.
The Constanta, Romania native controlled the second set and earned a 7-6 (3), 6-0 victory.
Stancu moves on to face Lauren Embree of Florida at 12:30 p.m., Thursday. Embree defeated Anastasia Erofeeva of Tulsa in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles action, Ana Belzunce and Welma Luus open with Georgia Tech's Alex Anghelescu and Jillian O'Neill at 2:30 p.m., Thursday.
