Scouting The Terps
• Maryland enters its weekend series vs. No. 19 Florida State with a 32-18 record overall and an 8-7 record in ACC play. The Terps have won 12 of their last 13 games, including six straight.

• Most recently, the Terrapins swept Boston College on its home field over the weekend.

Roster Schedule Statistics

• The Terrapins have five seniors in this year's roster in Vangie Galindo, Kendra Knight, Bree Hanafin, Kathy McLaughlin and Sloane Van Meter.

• Head Coach Laura Watten returns seven starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's NCAA Regionals squad.

• In 2011, senior Vangie Galindo had one of the greatest seasons at the plate in Terrapin softball history. Her season average of .422 and 78 hits last year were both school records. Galindo is batting .339 in her career, which is the best career average in school history. Bree Hanafin's career average of .323 is second-best and Kathy McLaughlin's career average of .296 is eighth in school history.

• Galindo needs seven hits to break the Terrapins' record for career hits. She has 213 and needs 220 to break Jenny Belak's record. Last week, she broke the Terrapins' career stolen base record with 61 in her career.

• With her stellar season this year, McLaughlin has cracked into the Terps' record books. She's in the top 10 in hits (183), runs (100), triples (10), stolen bases (27) and batting average (.296).

• Senior Kendra Knight is currently No. 2 in Terp history in career strikeouts with 752. She is just the second Terrapin to break the 700-K mark.

After this weekend's performance, she has 271 strikeouts this season, which is third-best in school season strikeout records and second in the ACC this year. She is the only Terrapin other than All-American Kelly Shipman to record over 250 strikeouts in a season.

• Knight threw her third career no-hitter last Wednesday night vs. Delaware State. It was her second no-no in a week, after doing the same vs. Howard. She held the Hornets hitless through the five innings of game one. In her 11.1 innings pitched, she allowed one hit and four walks and racked up 24 strikeouts.


Scouting The Seminoles
• Florida State is 44-11 on the year and 15-3 in ACC play. The Seminoles are ranked No. 19 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and No. 20 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches' poll. They've won eight of their last nine games.
• Courtney Senas is leading the Seminoles at the plate with her .323 average. Tiffani Brown has 60 hits, which leads the ACC. Pitcher Lacey Waldrop is leading the ACC with her ERA of 1.20. Monica Perry is third with her ERA of 1.61.
• Maryland is 11-42 all-time vs. Florida State. The Terps took two of three at Florida State last year and pitcher Kerry Hickey no-hit the Noles.

• Seniors Kathy McLaughlin is second in the ACC with her batting average of .378. Galindo is fourth with her .356 and Candice Beards is fifth with her .339.
• Beards is leading the ACC with her on-base percentage of .507.
• Galindo is second in the league in hits with 57 and McLaughlin is tied for third with her 54. McLaughlin is also fourth in the ACC in runs scored with 38.
Kendra Knight is ranked second in the league in opp. batting avg (2), innings pitched (2), strikeouts (2), strikeouts looking (2) and wins. She is eighth in the country in strikeouts and wins.
Nikki Maier is eighth in the country in hit by pitch.


Who's Hot?
• Seniors Kathy McLaughlin and Vangie Galindo have both hit .471 over the Terps' last five game with eight hits and two walks. Freshman Shannon Bustillos has eight hits in those games as well.
• Junior Melissa Mancuso has hit .417 in the Terps' last five games with five hits and two sacrifice hits.
• Senior pitcher Kendra Knight pitched 30.1 innings in Maryland's last five games with an ERA of 0.92. She only allowed 11 hits, four runs and 19 walks, as opposed to 43 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .115 against her and she notched her third career no-hitter last week vs. Delaware State.


Play the Best
The Terrapins will play a strong schedule against a number of the nation's top teams.
• The Terps will play seven games against teams in this year's USA Today/NFCA Division I Coaches Preseason Top 25.
• The Terps will battle six teams that competed in last year's NCAA championships. They will play 11 games against those teams.

Laura Watten returns for her seventh season at the helm of the up-and-coming Terrapin softball program. Her current career record is 558-370 (.601) and her record at Maryland is 236-163 (.591). Below is a breakdown of just a few of her career highlights:

New Leaders
Watten hired three new assistants prior to the 2012 season - Amber Jackson, Charlotte Morgan, and Kelly Kretschman.
• Jackson was one of the greatest hitters in Maryland softball history. Jackson transferred to Maryland for her senior year (2007) after playing her first three years at Bethune-Cookman College under Watten. In her one year as a Terrapin, she broke school records with 24 home runs, 56 RBI, and 55 walks. Her home run record led the NCAA that year. She was Maryland's second NFCA All-American and was named to the All-ACC First Team. After her career at Maryland, she played three years in the National Pro Fastpitch league for the Washington Glory and USSSA Pride. She 2007 MVP of the NPF and I received All-NPF honors in 2009.
• Morgan, an All-American pitcher at Alabama, plays for the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league. She played for the Crimson Tide from 2007-2010, winning SEC Player of the Year twice (2009, 2010). Morgan was named a first-team ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American and NFCA second-team All-American. She won the Lowes Senior Class award and was a top 10 finalist for USA Softball's Player of the Year honor. She helped lead the Tide to the Women's College World Series in 2008 and 2009. She was the NPF's No. 1 draft pick in 2010.
• She won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens and a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She served as an alternate for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Kretschman was a four-time NFCA All-American at Alabama from 1998-2001. As a freshman, she led the NCAA in home runs (25) and slugging percentage. She was named First Team All-SEC three times (1999, 2000, 2001). Kretschman helped lead the Tide to the 2000 Women's College World Series and was named to the All-WCWS Team. She is currently in her seventh season with the NPF.


Terps Picked to Finish No. 5 in ACC
Maryland was picked to finish fifth in the ACC, as voted by the league's head coaches.
• The Terrapins were one vote behind Virginia for fourth-place.
• In 2011, Maryland went 12-7 in ACC play for the most conference wins in a season in school history. The Terps finished third in the league after being picked to finish fifth. They advanced to the ACC Semifinals before falling to North Carolina.
