COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Brett Harman and Kyle Convissar of the University of Maryland baseball team have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 2 Baseball Team, it was announced Thursday.

Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the Academic All-District Teams honor the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Academic All-District Teams are divided into eight geographic regions across the United States and Canada; Maryland is joined in District 2 with Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Each of the eight Academic All-District Teams in Division I consists of 11 players - two pitchers, one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders and a designated hitter.

Harman, a right-handed pitcher, is a kinesiology major carrying a 3.73 grade-point-average. He's a two-time Academic All-ACC selection (2009 & 2010) and won baseball's Academic Achievement Award in 2010-11.

Harman has a 6-3 record and ranks in the top 15 in the Atlantic Coast Conference in ERA (13th - 2.79), innings pitched (8th - 6.45/game) and strikeouts (9th - 7.99/game). The fifth-year senior ranks third in school history with 244 career strikeouts, fifth with 16 career wins and sixth with 246 2/3 innings pitched.

Convissar, meanwhile, is carrying a 4.0 GPA while majoring in finance. The sophomore second baseman has started 47 games this year and is hitting .274 with 29 runs, 19 RBIs and nine doubles. Convissar was an Academic All-ACC selection as a freshman.

Out of 297 Division I teams, just 15 had multiple representatives. Maryland was one of three schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference with two selections, joining Florida State and Georgia Tech.

Both Harman and Convissar advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team honorees will be selected later this month.
