Scouting The Terps
Fifth-seeded Maryland enters the ACC Tpurnament vs. fifth-seeded Virginia Tech with a 34-19 record overall and an 10-8 record in ACC play. The Terps have won 14 of their last 16 games.
Most recently, the Terrapins took two of three from No. 19 Florida State over the weekend in College Park.

The Terrapins have five seniors in this year's roster in Vangie Galindo, Kendra Knight, Bree Hanafin, Kathy McLaughlin and Sloane Van Meter.
Head Coach Laura Watten returns seven starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's NCAA Regionals squad.
In 2011, senior Vangie Galindo had one of the greatest seasons at the plate in Terrapin softball history. Her season average of .422 and 78 hits last year were both school records. Galindo is batting .344 in her career, which is the best career average in school history. Bree Hanafin's career average of .323 is second-best and Kathy McLaughlin's career average of .298 is seventh in school history.
On Sunday, Vangie Galindo became Maryland's all-time hits leader with her 220th in the 10th inning that started the Terps' rally. She broke Jenny Belak's record of 219 set in 2008. Galindo owns Maryland's records in career stolen bases (66), career batting average (.344), batting average in a season (.422 in 2011) and hits in a season (78 in 2011).
With her stellar season this year, Kathy McLaughlin won the ACC regular season batting title with her .379 average at the plate in all games and .460 average in ACC games. Her career average of .296 puts her at No. 8 on Maryland's all-time list.
Senior Kendra Knight also broke a record on Sunday. She broke the school record for most strikeouts in a season with 291 this year, surpassing Kelly Shipman's record of 290 set in 1999. Knight is second on the Terps' all-time strikeout list with 773 in her career. She is currently No. 2 in Terp history in career strikeouts with 752. She is just the second Terrapin to break the 700-K mark.
Scouting The Hokies
Virginia Tech is 38-18 and finished 12-8 in ACC play. The Hokies have lost two of their last five.
Courtney Liddle is batting .312 on the year and is leading the Hokies at the plate.
Maryland owns the all-time series, 17-14, but dropped three games to the Hokies earlier this season.

Heat Wave
At 20-17 overall and 0-8 in ACC play on April 14, the Terrapins began on a red-hot tear that resulted in winning 14 of their last 16 games to end the regular season.
The Terrapins' win streak started with a three-game sweep of Virginia April 14-15 in College Park.
Galindo is second in the league in hits with 57 and McLaughlin is tied for third with her 54. McLaughlin is also fourth in the ACC in runs scored with 38.
In that 16-game span, the Terps have averaged .348 at the plate as a team with 145 hits and 89 RBI. In that stretch, they've outscored their opponents 104-34.
Over the last 16 games, Knight's ERA is 1.36 and her record is 14-1. She's racked up 121 strikeouts and allowed just 20 earned runs in 102.2 innings pitched. Batters have hit just .139 against her.
Galindo, McLaughlin and Beards have all hit over the .400-mark at .474, .434 and .409, respectively. Bustillos has hit .380.
Galindo has 27 hits and McLaughlin has 23, while Bustillos has 22 RBI.
Who's Hot?
Senior Vangie Galindo has hit .526 with 10 hits and six RBI in the Terps' last five games.
Senior Kathy McLaughlin has hit .471 with eight hits in the Terrapins' last five.
Senior Kendra Knight's ERA over the last five games is 0.97 with five earned runs, 32 strikeouts and a .139 opposing batting average.
ACC Tournament History
This is Maryland's 18th appearance in the ACC Tournament. The Terrapins own an ACC Tournament record of 17-30-1 (.458).
The Terps are 0-4 all-time vs. Virginia Tech in the Tournament.
Last year, third-seeded Maryland beat sixth-seeded NC State 4-3 in the First Round, then fell to second-seeded North Carolina 7-3 in the Semifinals.
Their 2011 Semifinals appearance was Maryland's first since 2005.
Sara Acosta was named to the All-ACC Tournament last year, after going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Stellar Seniors
This year's senior class of Vangie Galindo, Bree Hanafin, Kendra Knight, Kathy McLaughlin and Sloane Van Meter will leave behind quite a legacy.
This year's class garnered a record of 137-88 (.609). They amassed more ACC wins than any other class in school history with 39.
They went to back-to-back NCAA Regionals (2010, 2011) for the first time in school history. The 2010 appearance was Maryland's first since 1999.

Laura Watten returns for her seventh season at the helm of the up-and-coming Terrapin softball program. Her current career record is 560-371 (.602) and her record at Maryland is 238-164 (.592). Below is a breakdown of just a few of her career highlights:

New Leaders
Watten hired three new assistants prior to the 2012 season - Amber Jackson, Charlotte Morgan, and Kelly Kretschman.
Jackson was one of the greatest hitters in Maryland softball history. Jackson transferred to Maryland for her senior year (2007) after playing her first three years at Bethune-Cookman College under Watten. In her one year as a Terrapin, she broke school records with 24 home runs, 56 RBI, and 55 walks. Her home run record led the NCAA that year. She was Maryland's second NFCA All-American and was named to the All-ACC First Team. After her career at Maryland, she played three years in the National Pro Fastpitch league for the Washington Glory and USSSA Pride. She 2007 MVP of the NPF and I received All-NPF honors in 2009.
Morgan, an All-American pitcher at Alabama, plays for the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league. She played for the Crimson Tide from 2007-2010, winning SEC Player of the Year twice (2009, 2010). Morgan was named a first-team ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American and NFCA second-team All-American. She won the Lowes Senior Class award and was a top 10 finalist for USA Softball's Player of the Year honor. She helped lead the Tide to the Women's College World Series in 2008 and 2009. She was the NPF's No. 1 draft pick in 2010.
She won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens and a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She served as an alternate for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Kretschman was a four-time NFCA All-American at Alabama from 1998-2001. As a freshman, she led the NCAA in home runs (25) and slugging percentage. She was named First Team All-SEC three times (1999, 2000, 2001). Kretschman helped lead the Tide to the 2000 Women's College World Series and was named to the All-WCWS Team. She is currently in her seventh season with the NPF.
Terps Picked to Finish No. 5 in ACC
Maryland was picked to finish fifth in the ACC, as voted by the league's head coaches.
The Terrapins were one vote behind Virginia for fourth-place.
In 2011, Maryland went 12-7 in ACC play for the most conference wins in a season in school history. The Terps finished third in the league after being picked to finish fifth. They advanced to the ACC Semifinals before falling to North Carolina.
