EUGENE, Ore. - Kiani Profit set career-bests in the throwing events this weekend on her way to a 16th-place finish in the heptathlon at the U.S. Olympic Trials being held at historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.

Profit, a three-time All-American at Maryland, finished with 5,564 points in the seven-event competition.

In the third of seven events, Profit had a shot put of 40 feet, 4-3/4 inches for her best-ever mark in the heptathlon shot. It was her first mark over 40 feet in a heptathlon competition and surpassed her previous best of 39-8.75 set with her win at the 2010 NACAC U-23 competition.

Profit, who was 20th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.61) and 17th in the high jump (5-4.25), was ninth among the competitors in the shot. She finished Friday's first day in 20th overall after going 24.54 in the 200, 15th in the field.

After going 18-3 (16th) in the long jump, Profit set her second career-best in the throwing events with a mark of 129-1 in the javelin. Her previous best was a 127-0 at this season's UCF Invitational, while her best heptathlon javelin mark of 124-4 came at the 2010 NCAA Championship.

She finished third among all competitors at the Trials in the 800, finishing in 2:13.35.

She was one of 10 collegians in the 20-athlete field. Hyleas Fountain (6,419), Sharon Day (6,343) and Chantae McMillan (6,188) finished in the top three and will represent the U.S. at the Olympic Games in London.

Profit is scheduled to compete next for Team USA next weekend at the 2012 NACAC U-23 Championships to be held in Mexico.
