Bosdosh Wins Maryland Open

July 11, 2012

LOTHIAN, Md. - Rising junior Sean Bosdosh sunk a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole Wednesday to win the 91st Maryland Open at Old South Country Club. Bosdosh finished with a 12-under 204 (69-66-69) to edge Virginia's Denny McCarthy by a stroke to claim his first-ever Maryland Open championship.

"I knew I had to make it," Bosdosh said. "My brother told me the read - it was just outside right edge. I knew it was there, and if I just stroked it on that line, all I had to do was put the right speed on it, and that's exactly what I did. I just trusted it."

Bosdosh blasted a 7-iron over the green and into a bunker with his second shot on No. 18. After his bunker shot flew 20 feet past the hole, Bosdosh drained the subsequent putt to seal the championship.

The native of Clarksburg, Md., moved into contention on Wednesday with birdies on four of the last eight holes to move past second-round leader Charlie Winegardner.

Rising senior Stephen Bosdosh, Sean's brother, served as Sean's caddie on Wednesday for the final round of play. Rising freshmen Jordan Sweet and Will Wiseman also competed in the 54-hole event.
