LaFond Heads to World Junior Championships

University of Maryland rising sophomore Thea LaFond posted a career-best in the triple jump recently at an international meet in El Salvador, earning a trip to the World Junior Championships in Spain.
Competing for Dominica, LaFond finished second at 42 feet, 5-1/2 inches at the Central America - Caribbean Junior Championships held in San Salvador. Her previous best in the event was a 41-10.50 posted at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
She finished second in the competition to Liuba Maria Zaldivar Rojas of Cuba, who posted 45-2.50.
LaFond's mark hit the qualifying standard for the World Juniors, to be held July 10 to 15 in Barcelona, Spain.
