Hockaday and Mooney Named Top Prospects

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore K.J. Hockaday and freshman Kevin Mooney were named to Baseball America's top prospects list for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA on Thursday.

Hockaday completed the summer as the publication's top-ranked prospect in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. Mooney, a right-handed pitcher from Forest Hill, Md., ranked fifth.

Baseball America ranked the top 30 prospects for the Cape Cod League, the top 20 prospects for Team USA, and the top 10 prospects in 18 other summer college leagues, plus a top five in the four-team Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League.

Hockaday, who played for Youse's Orioles in CRCBL, had a tremendous summer. The Joppa, Md., native was named to the Perfect Game USA CRCBL top performer list after finishing the summer ranked in the league's top 10 in batting average and RBI. Hockaday hit .346 with 11 doubles, a triple, a home run and 36 RBI. He also stole six bases earning him a spot on the all-star roster.

In 29 innings pitched, Mooney struck 32 batters and finished with a 2.17 ERA for Youse's Orioles. Both numbers ranked in the top 5 on the club. A 2011 Perfect Game USA preseason All-America honorable mention, Mooney made four starts for the team and won three.

The SEC led all conferences with 31 players on the lists, followed by the Pac-12 (24 players), the ACC (16 players) and the Big 12 (13). The ACC leads all conferences with four players ranking as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues.
