#8 Maryland Takes on #5 Duke Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The eighth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team will take on No. 5 Duke Sunday at 3 p.m. in a nationally-televised white out game at Comcast Center. It will be the third annual Team Tyler Game for leukemia awareness with events surrounding the day.

The Maryland women's lacrosse team takes on Duke at 1 p.m. Sunday and a ticket to either game vs. Duke will grant admission for both games.

The Terrapins (22-4, 13-2 ACC) will look to avenge a tough loss at Duke (24-1, 14-0) on Feb. 11. The game on Sunday will also be a white out game, with all fans encouraged to wear white. It will be televised on ESPN2 nationally and the Terrapin Sports Radio Network. It can be heard on 1300 AM, 570 AM and online at UMTerps.com for a fee.

The Terps will join forces with Apple Ford Lincoln for the Team Tyler event, along with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the There Goes My Hero Foundation.

As part of the event, fans can purchase a Team Tyler ticket package for $30. The package includes a lower level ticket, an Under Armour Team Tyler T-shirt, on-camera recognition, a signed 2012-13 team photo and a group shot with head coach Brenda Frese and all package ticket holders. The There Goes My Hero foundation, which is based out of Bel Air, Md., works to expand the bone marrow donor registry and find matches for all those diagnosed with leukemia through many support programs. At the Team Tyler game, the There Goes My Hero foundation will be on the 300 level concourse, behind sections 207 and 208, prior to the game to register donors.

The Terrapins have also teamed up with Apple Ford Lincoln to present "3's for T." For every 3-pointer the Terps make this season, Apple Ford Lincoln will make a donation to the Team Tyler Foundation. Senior Tianna Hawkins' reached the 1,000-rebound plateau Thursday night and will be honored prior to Sunday's game. She is No. 3 on Maryland's all-time list, behind Marissa Coleman and Crystal Langhorne, who are the only players in program history to reach the 1,000-rebound mark. Only one men's player - Len Elmore - broke 1,000 boards with 1,053.

The Terrapins are No. 2 in the country in rebounding with their margin of +15.6, which is second only to Liberty's +16.4. Hawkins and Thomas are Nos. 1 and 2 in the ACC in scoring and rebounding. Hawkins leads the league in scoring with 18.7 points per game and Thomas is just behind her with 17.9. Thomas is the league's top rebounder with 10.4 boards per contest and Hawkins is No. 2 with 9.4 per game. Thomas is also second in assists per game with 5.2. In conference games only, Thomas leads all players in scoring, rebounds and assists. DeVaughn and Hawkins are Nos. 1 and 2 in FG percentage.

After Sunday's contest, the Terrapins will take on No. 19 Florida State (20-4, 10-5) Thursday at 7 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla. The Terps-Seminoles matchup will be shown live on ESPN3.com and the Terrapin Sports Radio Network. It can be heard on 1300 AM and UMTerps.com for a fee. Maryland beat Florida State, 71-64, on Jan. 6 in College Park behind 20 points from Alyssa Thomas, 17 from Tianna Hawkins and 12 from freshman Tierney Pfirman.
