Terps Set for Midweek Matchup at JMU

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland baseball team plays its first midweek game of the season when it travels to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on James Madison on Wednesday, Feb. 27. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Maryland (4-3) is coming off a four-game sweep of Oakland over the weekend in which the Terps outscored the Grizzlies 35-11 and stole 26 bases including a program-record 11 in game one of Friday's doubleheader.

The Terps swung the bat well over weekend totaling 14 extra base hits and finishing with a .336 (44-for-131) batting average. Four Terrapins hit over .300 during the series led by Kevin Martir. The freshman catcher went 7-for-10 with three RBI and two runs scored and added the game-winning single in the series finale.

White hit .667 (10-for-15) with three doubles, six runs scored, five RBI and 10 stolen bases. White's performance earned him ACC Co-Player of the Week.

The pitching staff also excelled in the four-game set striking out 36 Golden Grizzlies. The staff finished with 1.95 ERA and received solid performances from all four starters.

Jimmy Reed and Kevin Mooney battled cold and rainy conditions Friday. Reed scattered 10 hits over seven innings with 10 Ks only giving up two earned runs to pick up his first win of the season. Mooney took a no decision after striking out four in 4-1/3 innings of work.

On Saturday, Brady Kirkpatrick got his first victory of the season after allowing no runs and striking out five, while Alex Robinson took the Terps into the eighth by striking out nine.

Scouting the Dukes

James Madison (2-5) split a four-game series against Binghamton over the weekend. The Dukes played a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday.

Offensively, the Dukes have six players hitting over .300 led by Matt Tenaglia. Tenaglia is hitting .480 with four extra base hits and three RBI. Cole McInturff leads the team with nine RBI, and along with Bradley Shaban, is tied for the team lead in home runs (1).

On the mound, JMU has given up at least four runs in five of its seven games and has a team ERA of 4.71.
